For the first time the Guernsey side will be playing in Division Two South after earning promotion in the spring, beginning their new era with a tough trip to Clan.Coached by Kat Ratnapala, who trebles up as the coach of Super League outfit Hertfordshire Mavericks and also the England Under-21s, they are seen as one of the strongest sides in the eight-team league.

However, if they can fulfil their potential, then Nena Copperwaite is confident that Panthers have what it takes to mix it with this new level of opposition.

‘We have performed well for a while now but quite often only for two or three quarters of a match, not for the whole hour duration,’ said the Sarnian skipper.

‘But we showed what we are capable of in the inter-insular against Jersey when we put everything together for an hour and really should have beaten them [Jersey won 45-40].

'If we can put that consistency together, as well as become a more ruthless team than we currently are in certain areas and situations, then I think we will have a good season.'
