Vance warns that UK loanee could replace misfiring local strikers

TONY VANCE has warned his misfiring Guernsey FC strikers that if they cannot start to find the back of the net with regularity, he will be forced to look to bring in a loan UK player.

Ross Allen's off-island excursions in the past 18 months have left a worrying hole in GFC's goalscoring ranks.

Only eight goals have been scored in as many matches by the Green Lions and just four in the past seven since their impressive 4-2 opening day victory over East Grinstead Town.

Now, Vance has issued his most outspoken warning yet that if things do not improve in front of goal, then what would be seen as a drastic alternative may be sought.

His star man Ross Allen again misses today’s match because of holiday, meaning he has been involved in just 22 matches in the last 18 months.

‘My approach and my policy has always been to give local players the chance to play at this level and prove themselves above all else, which is what I have continued to do,’ said the GFC manager.

‘Our biggest problem this season has been that we haven’t been taking the chances we have created at crucial times in matches and if the players we have do not start to change that, then we will have to look elsewhere.’
