Raiders edge heavyweight battle

GETTING one over your big rivals to extend a winning start to the season is about as good as it gets.

But there were no great celebrations from Raiders at the final whistle on Saturday at Footes Lane because they barely had any energy left at the end of this bruising encounter that was as hard-fought as the scoreline suggests.

‘In my mind Hertford are a top-three team, so to get the win was great,’ said Raiders coach Jordan Reynolds after the 24-21 success.

‘I have no doubts about saying that those teams are two of the big heavyweights in this league so to get a good win like that is all you are looking for – you are never looking to take bonus points against the top teams.

‘Today we stepped up to the level I think we can play at, but it was a very hard slog for us.’
