A performance to make Dave proud

VALE REC produced something of a rarity – a comeback win – as they kick-started their Priaulx League campaign last night.

The first match at the Corbet Field since the death of club stalwart and groundsman Dave Le Noury saw both his beloved yellow-and-greens and visitors Sylvans honour him with a minute’s applause before kick-off.

When the action got going, strikes from Toby Le Ray and Zach Masterton-Pipet were enough to turn the game around for the hosts in an entertaining second-half, after Seb Smeed had given Sylvans the lead.

‘It has certainly been a long time since a Rec side has gone behind and had the belief to fight back and win the game – this is a sign of the new Vale Rec that we are building,’ said Vale Rec coach Jody Bisson.

‘It is a new era where the only disappointment is that Dave will not be around to see it happen because it would have pleased him immensely, but at least he was able to see the start of it in the early weeks of this season.

‘Tonight was not about the result in the first instance for me, it was about the lads going out there and producing a performance that would make the club proud and would have made Dave proud – they certainly delivered that.'

In the night's other Priaulx League match, North beat Bels 4-0.
