Home form will be key for Panthers

MAKING their home court a winning fortress is key to any hopes of Division Two South success this season, says Saffery Panthers captain Nena Copperwaite.

After five seasons of Division Three matches, the Guernsey crowd will finally get the chance to see higher-level league opposition at Beau Sejour tomorrow as Shooting Stars visit.

In what is becoming an increasingly new-look Panthers outfit, there are two new faces – Holly Meagher and Bryony de Garis – named in the dozen-player squad.

Both will be on the bench as an experienced starting seven is named, the exception being shooter Kyra Butcher, who keeps her place and will make just her second start.

‘It is so important that we play well and win our home games, that will be important if we want to have a good season at this higher level,’ Copperwaite said.

‘Then we can try and take any away wins and results as a bit of a bonus, although playing five of our first seven games away will be tough.

‘So it makes this weekend extra important and despite losing away in the first game, there are plenty of positives to take forward into this match.'
