Successful starters given another outing

TONY VANCE has promised to keep faith with those who picked up Guernsey FC’s long-awaited midweek win as his side travel to fellow strugglers Faversham Town.

The Green Lions manager has said it will be a sign of things to come as he alters his philosophy and is more loyal to current performances rather than past efforts or reputation.

It means that with the exception of young Charlton Gauvain, who plays for Guernsey under-18s this evening, the rest of the starting XI will be the same as the Wednesday win over Molesey.

‘It is quite simple really –if Charlton wasn’t involved with the U18s on this occasion, then our team would be exactly the same as midweek,’ said Vance.

‘Players are giving up their shirts far too easily these days, but they often get away with it because it is then far too easy to get it back a week or two later.

‘So now, I am approaching it that whoever is in possession of the shirt at that time has the opportunity – it is their prerogative to keep it if they go out there and perform well.

‘Reputations and past performances will count for less – it may sound harsh, but we need to do something to foster competition for places again.

Proof of Vance’s change in thought process is already there as regular captain Simon Geall has been left out of the travelling 14-man squad for today altogether, as have Angus Mackay and Glyn Dyer.

GFC squad: Callum Stanton, Keanu Marsh, Tom de la Mare, Alex Le Prevost, Frank Tobin, Jamie Dodd, Harry Tobin, Tom Dodds, Craig Young, Kieran Mahon, Seb Skillen, Dave Rihoy, Matt Loaring, Paris Pereira.
