Failure to close out match costs Raiders first defeat

RAIDERS can blame only themselves for slipping to a first defeat of the season despite seeing four tries disallowed at Dorking on Saturday, according to coach Jordan Reynolds.

The home side scored their third and final try in the dying moments to edge out Guernsey 24-20 in London & South-East Premier on Saturday and left Reynolds a frustrated figure, although he refused to point the figure at the officials who ruled out scores for his side for reasons varying from forward passes to being held up over the line when Guernsey felt they had grounded the ball.

‘To have four disallowed tries was a little bit extreme – you can have one or maybe two in a game but I cannot remember four before – but if you have that many, you are obviously leaving room for doubt in the referee’s mind and that’s responsibility we have to take, not just the players but all of us as a collective,’ Reynolds said.

‘If we scored one of those, it would have been the difference on the day and if we had won where would we have been sitting now? Four points above everyone else in the table.’

Raiders return to action on Saturday at Footes Lane, where Southend Saxons will be the visitors.
