The island’s star welterweight will return after a six-month absence on the Amalgamated Club’s Oktober Slugfest bill against an England Universities Select team.

His is one of 11 confirmed bouts for the Saturday 21 October show, with the only uncertainty being the identity of heavyweight Tomasz Kot’s opponent. There will also be two Jersey fighters guesting to take the total up to 14, potentially 15 if Monika Duda is not involved in UK novice championship action that weekend.

But with less than six months until the Commonwealths in Australia, all eyes will be on Le Poullain and whether he add can to his 40 wins from 58 fights.

Win no. 41 could be the hardest to come by, though, as he takes on Martin McDonagh, who got to the final of the elite nationals in the spring.

He is stepping up a weight division to fight Le Poullain, but clearly has pedigree after only losing a split decision in that light-welterweight final to GB fighter Luke McCormack.

Tickets are available from Beau Sejour.
