Cochrane nets on his return in routine win

NEARLY six years after his last FNB Priaulx League outing, Sam Cochrane was back – with a spectacular goal for good measure – as North maintained their scintillating recent goalscoring form.

Two early-season defeats had left many questioning the chocolate-and-blues’ credentials and whether they have it in them to overhaul reigning champions Rovers.

But this latest 6-1 win over Rangers on Friday night still sees them seven points behind – albeit with a game in hand – and makes them the league’s joint-top scorers and improved their mini-run to 18 goals in three games.

As well as Cochrane's volley, there were also goals for Scott Bougourd, Luke Mollet, Stuart Roussel, Michael Weston and Simon Marley – with Jarod Carrington netting for Rangers, who missed a penalty through Zak Chatterton.

The following day, St Martin's also put the pressure on Rovers by moving to within a point of the leaders – having played a game more – with a comfortable 3-0 success over Vale Rec.

Danny Hale scored a pair of penalties at rain-swept Blanche Pierre Lane on Saturday evening, while Louis Hunter netted the other.
