One-season ‘wonders’ to give FA Cup a miss

THERE cannot be a repeat of last season’s Guernsey FA Cup Final after Formula FC confirmed they will not enter this season’s competition.

A year ago, the scaffolding company-sponsored team made headlines with their inclusion in the GFA’s premier knockout cup competition with what was effectively a compilation side.

Several island, Muratti and Guernsey FC stars were involved with the outfit, as were a number of players from FNB Priaulx League clubs who jumped ship for that particular cup.

They gelled quickly enough to advance all the way through to May’s showpiece final – becoming the first non-Priaulx outfit ever to do so in the cup’s 13-year history – before falling 4-1 to Vale Rec.

Team organiser Carl Wallbridge has explained why they did not submit an entry by the now officially-passed GFA deadline.

‘We haven’t entered a team, I suppose you could say we have proved to be a bit of a one-season wonder,’ he said.
