Despite coming to Footes Lane with just one Bostik South defeat to their name this season, Carshalton Athletic left with a second after being on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat.

Dave Rihoy and Craig Young got the goals as both were magnificent, as was the returning Ross Allen, with that trio also hitting the crossbar three times between them in the second-half.

Afterwards, manager Tony Vance was a happy man and knew full well the importance of that particular group who, despite all now being the older side of 30, remain vital to his side’s success.

‘Having Ross back in the team makes such a difference because although everybody talks about his goals, it is what else he offers to the team that is so important,’ he said.

‘Ross holds the ball up fantastically well, the ball sticks with him and he gives us that outlet in the final third we miss when he isn’t there, plus the opposition are always wary of him.

‘He does drop deeper more often now than he used to and with that you need another attacking threat, somebody who will stretch the opposition and get in behind – which Dave did brilliantly today.’
