The young Bels boss, who has been in the job 18 months, said the responsibility, players’ attitudes and availability were all contributing factors to his departure. He quit the post on Saturday, less than 24 hours after he left the Corbet Field at half-time of their Stranger Cup defeat against Vale Rec.

‘It’s been a long time coming,’ he said. ‘It’s been a lot to deal with all at once.’

Bels will have Ant Austen, Liam Chainey and Andy Watchman in charge for tonight’s Stranger Cup clash against the Island U18s, but who will take over longer term is yet to be decided.

Martin ‘Tinny’ Le Cras, the club secretary, said their committee would be meeting soon ‘to discuss the way forward’.
