The Green Lions were in control of their encounter with Whyteleafe at half-time – three up thanks to Ross Allen’s early opener and an excellent Dave Rihoy brace.

Even when the visitors pulled one back in the second half, the response was immediate as captain Craig Young restored the three-goal cushion within a minute.

But the hosts surrendered their 4-1 lead in the last 18 minutes, conceding three in a hapless climax to the match to draw 4-4 and leave manager Tony Vance despondent.

‘I loved the first half, hated the second,’ he said.

‘We committed the ultimate crime to play like that in the second half – 4-1 up with 20 minutes to go...that’s very poor.

‘We played into their hands. We destroyed them in the first half and invited them on in the second.’
