A team of 33 was yesterday named by the Commonwealth Games Association, alongside a support group of 19.

David Harry, chairman of the GCGA, confirmed that 33 was the maximum number of competitors the Sarnians were permitted, but he was relaxed about it.

‘Personally, I’m happy as we have a split of athletes from the A and B category and of the 33 there are only two who have slipped in on the discretionary route.'

‘There are a number of reasons why in some of the individual sports we have chosen a number to do a job – they’re not medal winners but will be there to support those of medal standard.’

Harry admitted that the process had been 'challenging' and that for 2022 the selection criteria will be set by the Commonwealth Federation.
