‘We’re now giants and not giant-killers’

RAIDERS must now cope with being labelled as one of the title favourites, says their coach, after their dramatic win at fellow contenders Barnes.

After an astonishing 40-odd phases of play, Layton Batiste crashed over the line for the winning try with the 80 minutes up for a 22-16 victory that lifted Guernsey to second in London & South-East Premier – and Jordan Reynolds says now his players have to deal with the expectation the result has placed upon them.

‘We have been No. 1 twice already this season and we have not dealt with it very well,’ he said.

‘I think it’s because being top at this level has never happened before – we are traditionally a chasing team and we love that challenge.

‘Now, though, we have to cope with the transition from being one of the giant-killers in previous years to now being one of the giants.’

He added that it is now vital for his squad to build on the momentum garnered from their latest victory in the coming weeks, starting with their trip to Westcombe Park on Saturday followed by their final home game of 2017 against fellow top-four side Tring.
