CI Twenty20 on the cards – a new ferry service permitting

THE possibility of even more inter-island cricket is on the cards as the idea of a Channel Islands Twenty20 competition for next season gains pace.

However, any chance of that new tournament getting off the ground alongside the existing 50-over version depends on a new inter-island ferry service being introduced.

After a five-year break, the PraxisIFM CI League returned for the 2017 season and despite bad weather it was still deemed a success by those seven clubs involved.

That means that there will be no major changes for the 2018 version, with the only possible addition being a ‘Grand Finals Day’ on the final weekend.

But the introduction of a T20 equivalent could be an exciting development and league organiser David Piesing admits it could happen.

‘If an inter-island ferry service materialises then some resulting cost savings might make it feasible to also include a CI T20 club competition, again subject to fitting it in [to the schedule],’ he said.

‘There are four or five ferry companies who have apparently expressed strong interest [in the new service], so it’s a possibility even if it’s travelling one way by boat, one way by plane.’
