Raiders top of the tree at Christmas after 12th win
RAIDERS ended the year with a bonus-point victory on Saturday to ensure they sit proudly on top of the London & South-East Premier tree at Christmas.
It was not all plain sailing away to a Sutton & Epsom side hit by injuries in a game that involved a flurry of cards – three of which were shown to Guernsey captain Lewis Hillier, with the two yellows followed by a subsequent red not the sort he wanted to be receiving heading into the festive period – but a 43-19 success including six tries was just the result Raiders wanted to ensure they can enjoy the Christmas break.
They were 17-7 ahead by half-time with Owen Thomas scoring 12 of those points thanks to a try, two conversions and a penalty while Anthony Armstrong also touched down before the break.
After the turnaround, further scores came from Tom Ceillam, Dan Hill, Nick Merrien and a cracker from Armstrong with Thomas adding three conversions.
