Wright gets to work closely with some of world’s best
ASH WRIGHT has described his coaching role in the recent Bangladesh Premier League as an ‘awesome experience’.
Guernsey’s head of cricket was offered the role of assistant coach for Rajshani Kings in the seven-team Twenty20 tournament that featured several of the world’s best players.
Although his side finished sixth overall in the round-robin format with four wins from their dozen matches, Wright loved his trip to the sub-continent.
‘It was an awesome experience,’ he said.
‘I went there a bit unsure as to what to expect and what exactly what my role would be, how hands-on I would be, but it was fantastic to work closely with the players.
‘What I found was that a lot of the players – particularly the younger lads – who fly all around the world playing mainly T20 cricket don’t get that much one-to-one coaching in terms of batting and pointing out where they may be going slightly wrong.
‘So I found all of the players very grateful for somebody who was able to do that and they were all very receptive to advice.
‘From my point of view, to be able to work with some of the best around and also against them in terms of opposition teams, it was an incredible learning environment for me.’
