Watson’s blown away in Brisbane
THE new year has not started well for Heather Watson, who had been hoping for a good run at the big Brisbane International with the Australian Open looming fast.

After a couple of good wins in qualifying at the Queensland Tennis Centre, she failed to capitalise on a leg-up into the main draw following Petra Kvitova’s withdrawal due to a viral illness.
As a lucky loser the British No. 2 was promptly bounced out in the first-round clash 6-0, 6-3 by Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit.
The 25-year-old Guernsey woman lost the opening eight games of the match before gaining a semblance of consolation.
