The 30-year-old Old Elizabethan now proudly possesses a 1.1 rating that he wants to utilise as much as possible in the coming year to see how far he can progress in the game, although he revealed that in itself it was not a specific ambition of his.

‘I just wanted to play as well as I could and results lead to where they lead,’ Ogier said.

‘I have been able to play a few more matches over the last year and the thing that’s nice about it is that it reflects that I have put in a fair amount of work to get there over the year.

‘I had a couple of good victories against world-ranked players in Turkey and also some good wins in France – overall, my win/loss record was quite good for the last year.

‘That rating means I can get into more pro tournaments around the world so I want to be able to use that opportunity and just keep playing at as high a level as I can, as long as my body holds up.’
