Fortunate Cray Power on in title pursuit

A SOLITARY header from Michael Power may have ensured Cray Wanderers left with the points, but Tony Vance was a happier man than in some time at Footes Lane on Saturday.

GFC duo Keanu Marsh and Tom Dodds combine to tackle a Cray Wanderers opponent.

Because, after watching his Guernsey FC battle valiantly and give an excellent account of themselves in defeat against the Bostik South title challengers, the home manager must now think his side are close to turning a corner.

Power’s 51st-minute strike, which had more than a hint of offside about it, ensured that, ultimately, the better side won and deservedly so, but this was unquestionably the Green Lions’ best performance of their six-match winless run.

Vance knew that and, to his credit, refused to offer the questionable nature of the winner as an excuse.

‘From where I was, I can’t tell if that is offside or not, our lads thought it was but it wasn’t given, sometimes those decisions go against you and, in fairness, we did ride our luck on a couple of other occasions,’ he said.

‘But I am really happy with today, I asked our lads to go out there and perform because I haven’t been at all happy with the last few games, which to their credit they did and did really well against a top-quality side.'
