Arguably Guernsey’s greatest ever player secured his eighth crown in the event’s 11-year-history on Saturday night as he defeated Glenn Le Prevost 5-3 in a hard-fought final at the Gremlin Club .

It is the first time since his winning run from 2008 to 2011 that he has won it back-to-back and he admits he had to battle for this success.

‘We both played well early on and everybody knows that Glenn is a terrific player who is probably playing the best snooker of his life in the last couple of years,’ said Desperques.

‘Although the island title is the one to win, this is a big one as well because you have to play everybody along the way, it is the top eight from the aggregates so there is no hiding place.

‘Glenn beat me in the group stage and John Skillett, who is neck-and-neck with me in this season’s aggregates, barely won a game in this event, which just shows how high the overall quality is now.’
