The first string side of Garry Dodd, Josh Stacey, Lawrence Stacey and Ben Foss were joint top of National A-1 prior to the weekend, but faced a couple of tough tests which they overcame impressively to now take sole ownership of top place by two points.

On paper, the opening match should have been the easier one against fifth-placed side Archway Peterborough I, but as was the case with their first clash earlier in the winter, the Sarnians needed to be near their best to edge through 5-4.

It was a clash full of drama and incredibly four of the five Ravenscroft wins were clinched 12-10 in the fifth and deciding legs.

‘It was an important win and puts us in a good position to try and get promoted,’ said Guernsey Table Tennis Association president Derek Webb.

‘To win four of the matches like that in the decider shows real character.’

Ravenscroft’s other clash was against third-placed side Swerve I and in the end a comfortable 6-3 win was secured over a side missing some of its regular players.
