It was announced yesterday that the 15-year-old Sarnian has again been picked for her England age-group squad, this time at under-16s level for an upcoming home Uefa tournament in York.

When that is completed, she will travel south to look at colleges in Bristol, Reading and Brighton to decide where she will move to upon the completion of her GCSEs in the summer.

‘The next step for Maya, once her exams are done, has always been to get away to the UK because she has to do that to move forward,’ said her father Darren.

‘All of the colleges are effectively directly linked with the local clubs – Bristol City, Reading and Brighton & Hove Albion, who are all Women’s Super League One teams.

‘She would play for the under-19s development team and also for her college.’

Before that, she is part of the 20-player squad who will take on Denmark, Spain and Scotland in that Uefa round-robin tournament, with England’s games on 14, 16 and 18 February respectively.
