Guernsey break their duck
IT WOULD rank as one of the great escapes in island sport if it were to happen, but as far as Chris Griffiths is concerned ‘it is still on’ after yesterday’s thoroughly merited first win of the campaign.
Following their 22-5 victory over Teddington, Guernsey remain five points adrift of their beaten rivals at the foot of a Championship Two South West that Griffiths’s side have found difficult to cope with, but this four-try performance was a notable effort that promises more in the latter stages of the season and – just perhaps – safety.
Griffiths, who said in the build-up his girls needed to win three of their remaining five games, was understandably ecstatic with the first victory in 10 attempts.
‘I’m very, very pleased and although it wasn’t pretty to start with, we had them in the scrum and in the set pieces.’
Tanya Scholtz scored two tries for Guernsey, with the others coming from Vicki Rang and captain Jemma Crouse, who added a conversion.
