His time of 22.41sec., was also an outright Guernsey age-group record, surpassing the 22.5 of Nathan Stevens ran outdoors in 2002.
Tom Druce, who was also competing in Glasgow alongside fellow Sarnians Ala Chalmers and Josh Allaway, said: ‘He was very impressive, but we didn’t think he was going to get it [the record] pre the weekend.
‘He looked so confident and relaxed.
‘It is a big step forward,’ Druce added of a young runner who had impressed in training.
‘Joe has had a really good winter and put the work in. He’s made the mental transition from team sports – he played rugby before – and he has adapted to an individual sport really well.’
