Akpobire aims to score the goals GFC desperately need

KEL AKPOBIRE hopes he can help fire Guernsey FC up the Bostik South table in the coming weeks after a promising debut ultimately ended in defeat on Tuesday night.

For the fourth time in the last 15 months, Bristol City have come to the Green Lions’ aid by loaning them a professional player and this time it comes in the shape of centre-forward Akpobire, who has arrived for a month.

The teenager became the sixth loan player to appear for GFC debut when he played at Chipstead, where he offered a genuine goal threat and impressive hold-up play, but it proved to be to no avail as the hosts won 1-0 thanks to Michael Campbell’s 65th minute strike.

However, Akpobire is confident his loan switch will be a success and has backed himself to find the net regularly to end his new side’s barren goalscoring run since Ross Allen’s departure and with it, see them improve upon their current 20th place.

‘Getting regular first team football and scoring goals [is the ambition],’ he said.

‘To help the team get back to winning ways really, Guernsey is a massive club with a lot of support, so should be really higher up in the league than they are, so hopefully get them up there and start winning games again.

‘I think that [scoring goals] is why I have been brought in so hopefully I can provide that, start putting it in the net for the team.’
