The 27-year-old Guernseyman has not fought in 15 months and, after two successive defeats, has not picked up a victory since October 2014, but that has not stopped him picking up a plum shot at the vacant English super-flyweight title, when he comes up against undefeated Loua Nassa at the Ponds Forge Arena.

Freesports TV, which is available free on both Sky and Freeview, are broadcasting the show, with Watson’s bout one of two big title fights being held.

Despite Nassa having won all 10 of his fights so far,and also likely to enjoy the majority of the support in his home city, Watson’s promoter, Dennis Hobson, is calling it a genuine 50-50 showdown.

‘I think the English title fight will be a cracker between two very hungry kids,’ said Hobson, who initially planned to have a show involving Watson in Jersey last year, until it fell through.

‘They both have something to prove – it’s the first time a kid from Guernsey has fought for an English title and Loua is part of a family of five fighting brothers, who are all graduates and very intelligent. So, there are some great stories there.’
