Rihoy script nearly works
ON THE day he celebrated his 200th appearance in a GFC shirt and came preciously close to marking it with a match-winning goal, Dave Rihoy said that the team had given coach Tony Vance the reaction he wanted.
Although the winless run stretched to 12 games in front of 530 fans at Footes Lane, the Green Lions showed plenty of spirit in twice coming from behind to draw 2-2 with Thamesmead Town, a side sitting eight places above them in the Bostick South table.
At 2-2 and with the home side looking the more likely winners, Rihoy hit the post and, as he said later, but for a bobble it would have been in.
‘When it left my foot I thought it was in, but it got caught in the boggy bit [of the goalmouth] and unfortunately it hit the post,’ he said.
Beforehand, Vance had called for a response from his side after nine losses and two draws in the last 11 games. Did they deliver?
‘I think so - in stages,’ said Rihoy.
‘There were a few times in the first half that we got caught out and we soon learned from that and bounced back in the second half big time.
‘I was hoping we were going go on to win, but we’ll take the point.’
The result sees the Green Lions stay in 20th spot in the table.
