Young Staples shines as Panthers hold their nerve

THERE were moments in this exciting Sunday lunchtime Division Two South clash, so vital to the outcome of the division’s relegation battle, that it seemed Saffery Panthers would do their usual trick.

They would get ahead, look good for a while and then blow it.

But thankfully for their aspirations of staying in the division, not this time.

This time they held their collective nerve and with a final three-goal flourish pulled away to win by five, 50-45.

Inspired by a superb individual effort by young goalkeeper Ella Staples, Panthers were mostly ahead and never more than a goal adrift in a fluctuating and always very even clash, but at the same time could never pull decisively clear.
