Vance happy with a point

THE Green Lions have set an unwanted new club record of 12 games without a win, but manager Tony Vance was satisfied with their 2-2 draw away to VCD Athletic on Saturday.

Dave Rihoy gave Guernsey FC a 1-0 half-time lead with his 70th goal for the club and he then doubled their advantage with his second of the game eight minutes into the second half.

However, an Alfie Cue free-kick and a hugely-deflected goal credited to Temitope Eweka, who moments later was sent off for a bad challenge on Charlton Gauvain, earned the hosts a share of the spoils.

‘I’ve just said to the lads I think it’s a good point today,’ said Vance.

‘I know where we are – OK, we haven’t won for how ever many games it is – but if you look at our last four games, defensively we are a lot better and we’re looking more of a unit now.

‘We’re in a tough league, we know that, but away from home, 2-2, I think most people would have taken that, so the fact we haven’t won, I’m not too concerned about that.

‘It’ll be around the corner at some point, we’ve got 12/13 games to go and we’re relatively safe. We know what we’re trying to achieve over the next couple of years. It is a difficult league, like I said, and we were in a winning position, but it is still ultimately a very good point for us.’
