Tweaking Tardif will ditch couple

MURATTI boss Chris Tardif says he learned a lot from Thursday’s 4-0 defeat by the RAF and a couple of players will pay as a result.

‘There were a couple who played their way into the squad and a couple who played themselves out,’ he said in responding to a wholly iffy display against well-drilled and skilled opposition.

‘If we had played like that against Alderney or Jersey, I would have been worried,’ he admitted 15 days ahead of the semi-final at Mount Hale.

‘I hate losing, but in this new role for me it was a worthwhile experience and it taught me a lot about some individuals.

‘I will be meeting with John [Nobes] and Kevin [Gilligan] today and will announce a 20-man squad on Monday, then we have got them together for two weeks to work on things.’

Tardif says the 4-1-3-1-1 formation he used against the airmen is different to they way the Green Lions play, but he won’t be veering too far away from the GFC style and ways.

‘I want to tweak what they do. I don’t want to completely change, but what I do want to do is change mindsets.’

He also admitted that the loss of Ross Allen is forcing him to look at other avenues to find those precious goals.

‘It is part of why I have chosen the system I have, because I want to get more attacking players in the side as we haven’t got an out-and-out scorer on the pitch.’

Tardif said his side’s play was too frenetic and ‘they did us at set-pieces’, but insists they improved after half-time.

‘They [the RAF] seemed a bit up for it and were stronger. We threw them together.’

The injury Craig Young collected keeps him out of today’s GFC home game against Sittingbourne and Tom de la Mare is also a doubt after playing 90 minutes on Thursday night.
