Guernsey gave it everything but they were finally seen off by two goals in the closing minutes of extra time after an otherwise even game.

Guernsey had taken the lead when Jersey failed to clear a corner kick and Callum Cherry was on hand to hammer home a rising shot from 10 yards.

Guernsey’s lead lasted under a minute and after the final whistle, their coach Mark Ingrouille said: ‘I feel for our players because the scoreline in the years to come will say 4-1 and everyone here today knows it was a very different game.

‘I’m so, so proud of all of the players today, they’d played out of their skins, they’ve played for the badge on their chests.

‘Congratulations to Jersey, they were clinical, they got the goals needed to win the game, so well done to them.’
