Unwanted club record ends
IT IS hard to believe this had been such a long time coming.
Guernsey FC had not won since early December – a run of 14 games, which included a 4-0 reverse away to Sittingbourne – but they ended that unwanted club record in comprehensive fashion at Footes Lane on Saturday when they were comfortably the better side in a 3-0 win over Sittingbourne.
Paris Pereira gave the home side a 1-0 lead at half-time before two goals from Dave Rihoy in the second half wrapped up the three points on a day when the Green Lions were superior to their visitors in every department.
‘We were very much in control,’ said GFC manager Tony Vance.
‘I felt the only way we were going to let them in was either a set piece or getting caught on the counter or a glaring error from us.
‘They didn’t really carve us open and we looked fairly comfortable, but of course you’ve got to go and break them down and eventually we did.
‘The pitch was a bit difficult and I think perhaps if the surface had been a bit smoother, it probably could have been more.
‘But ultimately it was a controlled performance today and we deserved the three points, there’s no doubt about it.’
