De Garis playing his ‘leveller’ card

SYLVANS face a big defensive dilemma as they prepare to welcome Jersey Wanderers to St Peter’s for a Jeremie Cup quarter-final clash tomorrow lunchtime (1pm kick-off), writes Rob Batiste.

Paul de Garis’ side are the last remaining Guernsey side in the competition, which has already seen St Paul’s book their place in the final.

Tomorrow’s winners will play St Peter in the semi-finals, but de Garis is hamstrung by key losses.

As well as losing skipper Matt Le Prevost to a terrible double leg break, he will have to make do without Nick Trebert. On top of that he reports that he has yet to see Greg Roland, who was key at the start of the season before being struck down by knee problems, at training.

‘I think it is going to be a hard task for us, as we have such a small squad.

‘But we’re improving and we’re hopeful. We’re at St Peter’s and that will be a leveller straight away.

‘I don’t know much about Wanderers and it’s all going to be new for us.’

De Garis said thoughts still remain with his stricken captain.

‘I saw in him in hospital on Monday and he’s remaining positive. It will be a long road back, though, and he’s a big loss.

‘He’s broken that leg before and if he is to come back it will require a lot of mental strength.’

Wanderers sit fourth in the Jersey Combination Premiership.
