Player survey is just what’s needed

TONY VANCE has applauded his former captain Sam Cochrane for setting himself the challenge of heading up a new senior players survey.

Press Sport yesterday exclusively revealed that Cochrane, the former Green Lion regular, had volunteered to front up the survey and meet first-team squads at all the senior clubs to gauge their opinions on the future of island football.

Vance, whose GFC team host Faversham Town at Footes Lane today, said the survey was a great idea.

‘It’s fantastic that someone like Sam is prepared to go and get his hands dirty and put something back.

‘This is a players’ game after all and I hope they are all honest and give relevant feedback,’ he added.

‘It’s a great idea and concept because if you can gather as much statistics as you can, that can only be a positive step.

‘Statistics can often back up opinions, but they can also outweigh opinions too.’

As for today’s clash between the team placed 19th and 20th in the Bostik South, Vance named a 15-man squad with no replacement keeper, with Jordan Kelly, the regular No. 2, on coaching duties with the Guernsey U16s in Jersey.

Keanu Marsh returns but his brother, River, is playing for North in the Wheway Cup in Jersey. Harry Tobin is also away.

Vance said last week’s big win over Sittingbourne had been coming for a while and this is another very winnable game. ‘Faversham will be a different quantity and we need to be aware of their threats as on their day they can blow you away with their physicality.’

SQUAD: Cal Stanton, Keanu Marsh, Frank Tobin, Simon Geall, Jamie Dodd, Alex Le Prevost, Tom de la Mare, Ryan-Zico Black, Seb Skillen, Ben Coulter, Charlton Gauvain, Paris Pereira, Dave Rihoy, Matt Loaring and Dom Heaume.
