‘Professional’ performance sees Guernsey progress to the final
WHAT was all the fuss about? Not quite the sentiment of new Guernsey Muratti coach Chris Tardif, but perhaps for those Sarnians brought up on a diet of easy semi-final wins, the eventual 2-0 scoreline edged it towards that category.
In truth it was far from straightforward and Alderney were as brave and tough as everyone imagined they would be.
First-half goals from Tom Strawbridge and fellow ‘Rover’, the debutant Sam Hall, calmed the Guernsey nerves and with a side built on very solid foundations with skipper Ben Coulter driving them on from midfield, Ridunian hopes of that first win for nearly an entire century were dissipated long before the end on a kind day, weather wise, on the Mount Hale pitch.
Tardif wore a big smile at the final whistle, calling the performance ‘professional’ and recognising that to win they had enjoyed a little bit of fortune.
In fact it was no different to what he expected it would be.
‘It was a hard-fought, tough battle but I am pleased the boys put in a performance.’
