Casey tops the bill in a new weight division
COUNTY ANTRIM provide strong opposition for the Guernsey lads in tomorrow’s final Guernsey Dinner Boxing Club Show of the season at St Pierre Park.
Top of the bill is Casey de la Mare who, in the only open class bout of the night, steps up to the middleweight division.
‘He’s enjoyed being able to eat a bit more,’ joked coach Tom Duff, who added: ‘he’s naturally grown into the weight and it will be interesting to see how he fares there.’
Noel Donnelly provides the opposition for de la Mare who, last time out in mid February, was unlucky to see the decision go against him when fighting Laiq Khan at welterweight.
It certainly looked as though de la Mare had done enough to warrant edging the split decision as the judges returned after nine minutes where he looked sharper and better than he has at any time in the recent past.
Super-heavyweight Dan Maree is back in action against the Irishmen and there is another new heavyweight on the domestic scene.
Oblie Botchway is the name and Duff likes what he sees.
‘He’s over here working in finance and he looks quite skilful.
‘He has only had one bout before.’
Making his debut will be the latest in the line of Watson siblings, young Arnie, and his brother Charlie continues his development in a bantamweight contest.
Duff expects the Country Antrim squad to be strong.
‘Belfast’s a big city and has produced so many good amateurs and professionals, so I would expect them to be good.’
