Dodd’s prediction of Green domination proves spot on
GARRY DODD’S pre-weekend prediction of Guernsey glory all the way came true at the GTTA Centre on Saturday night.
Not only did the Guernsey men and women triumph in the annual team clashes, the Horace Mallett Memorial Aggregate Trophy returned to Sarnian hands, albeit the fight for that was perhaps a little closer than Dodd imagined.
Dodd was key to it all.
The left-hander dropped just one set in winning all three of his singles clashes and also combined with young Ben Foss to win the doubles in a comfortable 7-3 Green Trophy win.
This came after Guernsey had won the women’s equivalent for the Margaret Trophy 6-4, doing so with a 15-year-old Alderney girl, Marli Barker, winning two of her three singles on debut.
It was a wonderful senior inter-insular introduction for the young Ridunian who, a week earlier, had been shedding tears after her U18 Guernsey final defeat by fellow Ridunian Amy Wesley.
But here she was despatching the young Jersey champion Irene Bree in straight sets and combining with Kay Chivers to win the key doubles 3-1.
The pattern had been set on Friday evening with the home squad returning 15 victories from the 20 CI titles at stake.
