Fifth British crown for Cam
AUSTRALIA and the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games did not bring the very best out of Cameron Chalmers, but put him in a Team Bath vest at a British Universities Championships and there is no catching the Guernsey record-holder.
Yesterday at Bedford, Chalmers made the most of the fine conditions to break the 46sec. barrier for the fourth time in less than a year and with it retain his one-lap title.
Five times now the best of British Universities 400m runners have lined up against him and each time they have been left behind by the Sarnian wearing the blue and yellow of Bath where he is about to end his three-years.
Twice he has won the indoor title and yesterday completed a superb hat-trick of outdoor crowns, his time of 45.97sec. a new season’s best and surpassing the 46.16 he ran to reach the Commonwealth semis.
