Her 9 & 7 victory over the defending champion Sue Wellfair yesterday saw her add the major crown to two previous Bronze Division titles as well as being part of successful Island Games teams.

Much of the damage was done in the morning round, which Webber ended 6 up with the first halved hole of the match remarkably not arriving until the 13th.

Wellfair won two holes back within the first three of the afternoon round, but Webber finished the front nine very strongly with quality approaches into the seventh, eighth and ninth holes to stand on the brink of victory.

The title was sealed on the 11th green – the 29th hole of the match.

‘I stayed pretty steady most of the day,’ said the smiling champion.

‘I was a bit tentative when we went out this afternoon thinking “I could lose a couple of holes”, which I did, but once I got it back again I felt quite OK with it all again really.

‘In some ways I put a lot of pressure on myself [at lunch] thinking I’ve got to hold on to that rather than just blocking that out and starting again.

‘At a certain stage it could have easily gone to three, but it went the other way and I was back to 5 up and that was a nice cushion.’

In the Bronze Division final, Helen Kelso overturned an early four-hole deficit to defeat Kay Chivers 7 & 5.
