A healthy turnout of surfers from all parts of the UK competed for division titles giving them valuable points for the remainder of the UK series.

The UK’s elite soon bedazzled spectators with some explosive surfing, mixing more established manoeuvres with progressive new school ones which which were rewarded accordingly by the panel of ISA judges.

But the young Channel Island surfers soon found their feet with some great surfing by Sarnian Hook and Jersey’s Max Bennett in the early rounds.

Only last October Hook won two age groups and made another final at the CI Championships at the same beach.

He also competed for the CI junior surf team at the ISA Vissla World Junior Championships in Japan.

On this occasion, all CI surfers showed great character and determination to quash the UK domination but it was Claudia Cosgrove, Amelia Gould and Ma-Ya Larrson from Jersey who reached their respective finals.

Joel Gray, from Rip Curl said: ‘What a great event to kick off this years’ Grom Search series’.

‘We were really impressed with how the event was put together and ran and a huge well done to the Channel Islands Surfing Federation for their excellent work here. We would love to come back for more fun next year.’
