The recent Commonwealth Games representative’s average speed exceeded 32mph on the way to his hugely impressive 46min. 32sec. clocking in south Wales at the weekend, slicing nearly two minutes off Jack English’s previous best mark of 48-18 that was set last August, while also taking third place on the day.

Tremlett benefited from the downhill start of the partially out-and-back Sportzmad race course and was not fazed by the return ascent as he worked towards his outstanding new record.

‘It was a really nice day out, for one thing – conditions were really good – and I knew the time I was capable of going into it,’ he said.

‘I am really happy with the record and with the progress, and I might come back again soon and give it another go.

‘The course is ridiculous, it’s just so fast – there’s a nice quick downhill for the first mile or so and then you don’t even go right up again on the way back.’
