IT WAS a home one-two for Guernsey as James Roe and Jack English powered across the line in yesterday’s second stage of the Channel Island Race Series, based at Pleinmont.

Commonwealth Games riders Roe and English joined up with Steve Dawes to head the Sarnian challenge and remained bunched with a trio of Jersey riders for most of the seven-lap senior men’s race.
It all came down to final-lap tactics as Dawes kept the pace sharp along the coast, paving the way for English to attack the final Imperial hill ascent and Roe to make his move over the final cresting of the hill.
Mountain bike star Roe sped along the remaining flat section to take first in 2-13-50, with English one second behind and Jersey’s Jack Rebours completing the podium another two seconds back.
‘I’m really happy, we had a plan on the day and we executed that plan well, I suppose,’ said winner Roe.
