The 2014 island champion knocked out second seed Paul Way in the quarter-finals of the Ravenscroft Guernsey Open Matchplay at La Grande Mare to set up a last-four clash with the other main seed in his half of the draw, Steve Richardson.

The other semi-final will pit defending champion Bobby Eggo against Steve Mahy, who came through an epic match with Dave Jeffery.

‘I’m delighted with the win,’ said Blondel, who cheekily thanked his cousin Danny for being off-island this week and unable to take up his invitation to the main draw as reigning Guernsey champion, opening the door for Jamie as this year’s Island Championship runner-up.

‘It’s always nice to play against new players, particularly someone of Paul’s calibre, and it was a really enjoyable match.

‘There were a few dodgy holes along the way, but there are always going to be in tough conditions like that – I’m just glad it wasn’t a round with a scorecard in my hand,’ he added of a sunny but very windy evening on the west coast.
