A SUPERB performance by Luke Malcic of Elizabeth College put him ahead of all other UK competitors on the second day of the schools’ rifle-shooting events at Bisley in Surrey.

His steady shooting in three competitions at 300, 500 and 600 yards, gave him the leading aggregate of the day to win an NRA gold medal and the Welsh Regiment Bowl.

Today, Malcic (pictured right) and his fellow Elizabethans will shoot in the school team events, which include the prestigious Ashburton Shield, competed for by schools since 1861 and in which the College has taken part since 1906.

They will be hoping to go just one better on last year when they were runners-up.

The Imperial Meeting proper begins tomorrow with the Guernsey team hoping to build on its earlier successes this year, victors in both the NRA match and the inter-insular and also winning the right to represent the Channel Islands in the Astor County Championship.

The historic meeting concludes on Saturday week with the Queen’s 100 final.
