THE Royals have done all they can with victory in their last round-robin match.

Now the inaugural Island Team Scratch League champions face an anxious wait to see whether they will reach back-to-back finals or lose their crown.

The La Grande Mare Douit Dodgers host L’Ancresse Martellos on Monday in the concluding group-stage match and the home side’s captain Dave Jeffery will no doubt have already started planning the best way of getting the points required to secure an all-important top-two finish.

With both that hat and his Guernsey Seniors non-playing captain hat on, Jeffery was one of the interested spectators at L’Ancresse on Monday evening as the Royals won the northern derby 16-9.

He would have been delighted, too, to see the over-55 combination of Nigel Vaudin and Mick Marley in fine form as they chalked up their side’s first win on the night.

Wayne Moore’s excellent tee shot into the seventh to earn a nearest-the-pin bonus was the sole consolation for him and playing partner Danny Bisson as Vaudin and Marley – who just edged out Bisson by a couple of feet for the bonus point on the 12th – used all their nous to secure a 2 & 1 victory.

However, the Martellos’ cousins – Danny and Jamie Blondel – joined forces to excellent effect to hit back for L’Ancresse in the second foursomes rubber, wrapping up victory over Tom Le Huray and Sean Mills victory on the 17th.

The Royals had the edge in the singles, though, as Daniel Griggs gained a full house of seven points in beating Sam Le Huray 4 & 3 while Jeremy Nicolle halved with Arthur Evans in an excellent match, with Nicolle picking up both nearest-the-pin bonuses.
