So, naturally, the GFC boss is delighted that last season’s GFC double award winner has turned down good UK club offers to remain with his side this coming season. That he has been able to is wholly thanks to the support of Guernsey-based financial services business Nerine Fiduciaries.

The goalkeeper, who originally came on loan from Premier League side AFC Bournemouth, was recognised at the Guernsey FC End of Season Awards by his coaches by picking up the ‘Young Player of the Year’ and ‘Supporters’ Player of the Year’ trophy.

Nerine’s backing will allow Stanton to continue playing for the Green Lions in the upcoming season, while still living near the South Coast.

‘I can’t wait to get started, I’m really looking forward to returning to the club,’ Stanton said yesterday.

‘I loved my time with the Green Lions last season and was always keen on returning, I’m confident the club can build on last season and I’m delighted to be able to play my part.’

Vance sees it as a key signing.

‘He’s been fantastic for us and the best thing about this for us is that he really wants to play for us. He’s turned down offers in the UK to do so.

‘Goalkeeper is one of the main positions where stability and consistency is paramount. Callum gave us exactly that last season and is an excellent young goalkeeper who we are delighted to be welcoming back for another season. He gives us a great platform to build on.

‘We are extremely grateful for the generosity of Nerine, who provided support to three of our players last season. It’s great that they have offered to support us again to enable Callum to be available every game.’

Stanton will be in goal today as Worthing visit Footes Lane in a 2pm kick off.
