Cobo keep their hopes of a final place alive

THE day Guernsey cricket fought back. Well, sort of.

Just when all seemed lost in CI League terms, Cobo turned over the league leaders St Ouen Springfield and, across the water, Matt Stokes reigned supreme with the bat, scoring 106 for Wanderers against Farmers Caesareans.

Sadly for Wanderers’ hopes, it was not the only ton of the game and with young Josh Lawrenson and Nick Ferraby both reaching three figures, Farmers chased down the target without losing a wicket.

Meanwhile, perhaps the least said about Griffins’ performance against Walkovers the better – the Guernsey side being thoroughly walloped.

But the game of the day was undoubtedly at KGV where Cobo beat the Jersey visitors by six wickets, Tom Veillard’s spin picking to pieces the St Ouen Springfield batting and turning in a man-of-the-match performance of 5 for 21.

As a result Cobo can believe that a good win over Walkovers next weekend could, if other results go their way, see them squeeze into the final.
