Le Noury eases to third win

STUART LE NOURY had only himself to race and eventually pulled out a winning gap of more than half-an-hour to take his third Church to Church walk victory.

Le Noury was clear right from the 9am start of the 19.4-mile Sarnia Walking Club pinnacle and the recently-crowned club champion had much time to spare as he had already picked up a hefty gap on next-placed Rob Elliott by the four-mile mark at the airport.

The main question from then onwards was whether he would cross the South Esplanade finish line before the noonday gun, after holding close to his aspirational three-hour finish pace, in good conditions, for much of the race.

Winner Le Noury eventually crossed the line in 3hrs 11min. 24sec. – his second-quickest time yet, but something that left him hungry after an injury-curtailed build-up and a lack of crucial rivalry.

‘Next year if I get a good season of training and good conditions, I’ll get under three hours,’ he said.
